Schoenus melanostachys

The photo shows parts of a preserved specimen: at the left, the base of the plant showing the short stout rhizome, the short leaf only 5 mm long and very dark red-brown sheath. From this rhizome the erect, rigid and nodeless culms (or flower stem) rise from 30 to 125 cm.
At the right of the photo you see the seed heads.
