| False Bracken Fern
Calochlaena dubia
Called False Bracken Fern because it so easily confused with the true Bracken, Pteridium esculentum. Both grow in dense colonies but the green of the False Bracken is rather dull and the leaves themselves are flat. There are other differences especially to the underground spreading rhizomes that allow the colony to spread. They are usually stout, covered with soft, silky, pale and dark brown hairs.
