The photo is of a herbarium sheet showing the slender, tufted perennial, sometimes with very short rhizomes.
Often proliferating i.e. developing roots and leaves from the flower, vegetatively as shown in the inset.
Seed stems are 5 - 50 cm high, to 1 mm diam.
Leaves are reduced to a blade to 6 cm long. Spikelets 3 - 15 per inflorescence or rarely a solitary spikelet, 2 - 6 mm long.
