Asplenium australasicum / Bird’s Nest Fern
When I first saw this fern in Tumbi Wetlands I assumed that it was a garden escapee – but I have been assured by older residents in the area that they were common before subdivision of the surrounding blocks commenced. We presume that many were removed during development of the subdivision as they have been popular garden plants. It was found in a mossy area on a fallen tree in company of the Elk Horn – Platycerium bifurcatum. I returned recently to see how things had changed and found the plant thieves had been there. See how things have changed. Created: 07/16/2011
