Lepyrodia scariosa / a sedge

This sedge grows to about 80 cms tall but is not found to be erect – rather lying wind blown. It has the male and female reproductive structures on separate plants. The centre part of the photo shows a small leaf about 2 cm long forming a sheath around the seed stem at each node. At the right of the photo small shoots sprouting from the very short underground stems can be seen. Created: 06/12/2009
