Oplismenus aemulus / Basket grass

Is this grass called Basket grass as it is used to make baskets or because of the way it weaves across the ground? The inserts show a full sized leaf with its wavy margins (upper left). The leaves are relatively broad – the length being less than 7 times the width and distinguish it from its cousin – Oplismenus imbecillis which are relatively narrow. Its flowers are all carried on one side of a stem (lower right). Created: 06/22/2007
