Sphaerolobium vimineum / from the Pea family

A name which simply means that it is the pea with a spherical pod and leafless branches like twigs. A plant with a fairly sprawling leafless set of branching stems up to nearly 1 metre long. The stems are round (about 1mm diameter) and mostly green although the older part was calloused (like it was forming a very thin bark layer) – yellow brown coloured. As the spike of flowers grows taller and lower flowers mature – small green pods (about 04) to 5 mm long) form and remain attached down the stem. It was surrounded by sedges and grasses with some of its stems erect and others not. The photo is slightly more than full sized. Created: 11/204)/2007
